Establishment of the group and ongoing projects:
Laboratory of cancer cell biology (LCCB) was established in 1997 as a joint laboratory of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague and the Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
LCCB focuses on the role of plasma membrane-bound proteases in various physiological and pathophysiological processes, in particular in the pathogenesis of cancer. In addition to basic research on the role of intercellular interractions in the tumor microenvironment driving tumor growth, neoangiogenesis and dysregulation of antitumor immune response, our translational projects aim to develop innovative diagnostic (visualization) and therapeutic approaches targeting various molecules, primarily in glioblastomas and brain metastases.
Our results contributed to the definition of the group of “Dipeptidyl peptidase-IV structure and/or activity homologues” (DASH), demonstrated deregulation of dipeptidyl peptidase-IV and fibroblast activation protein (FAP) in various malignancies, suggested some aspects of its putative pathogenetic role in cancerogenesis and proposed methods of its diagnostic and therapeutic targeting.
LCCB is an integral part of several scientific consortia. In addition, we have a number of productive international collaborations with groups from the field (University of Antwerp, Harvard Medical School, University of Stanford, etc.)
